The book is based on real facts,
described in a masterly way which grips the reader from the first page.
It flows easily, mixing bulgarian folklore and pagan customs in such a way
as to appear vivid in the eyes of the reader.
It is based on the pagan belief that between December 24 and January 7th
the evil shows it's face on earth and babougers (or kookers - mummers) are to chase evil from the face of earth.
For this purpose people dress in goat skins, adorned in bells and jump to make terrible noise
with the intention of frightening evil.
This custom was forbidden in Bulgaria during communist rule but is seen again nowdays in a few places
there.
The story unfolds in an area in Bulgaria where this is quite common and tells how the simply people overcome all obstacles, prohibitions and difficulties and finally, in a bitter-sweet way they reach their goal and chase the evil, leading to the reign of good.
